What Makes It Fun

Everything runs automatically once the browser source is added to OBS.

⏱️

Progressive Hints

Emojis only at the start. A first-letter hint drops partway through. Category hint follows. Full reveal if nobody answers in time.

🔥

Streak Counter

Chat builds win streaks across rounds. The current streak leader is shown live on the overlay so everyone knows who's on a roll.

Speed Bonus

Answer quickly before the first hint drops and the overlay celebrates with a Speed Bonus badge.

🏆

Leaderboard

A live leaderboard shows after every round displaying the top winners. Resets automatically every 24 hours.

😔

No One Got It

When the timer runs out with no correct answer, the overlay plays a reveal animation and shows what the answer was.

Use With Pogly

Running Pogly instead of a plain browser source? Import the widget directly.

Pogly is a browser-based overlay editor. Import the JSON below to add Emoji Decoder as a 640×420 widget layer. After import, update the channel variable to your Twitch channel name.

If you entered your channel name in the setup step above, it will already be pre-filled in the import.

How Chat Plays

No setup needed for viewers - just type in chat.

  1. The overlay shows a set of emojis representing a movie, game, song, or TV show.
  2. Chat types their answer directly into Twitch chat - no command prefix needed.
  3. The first person with the correct answer wins. Streaks accumulate across rounds.
  4. Progressive hints appear as the timer counts down to help chat get unstuck.
  5. After a correct answer or timeout, the leaderboard is shown for a few seconds before the next puzzle starts.

Tip: Answers are matched case-insensitively with punctuation stripped, so the lion king, Lion King, and THE LION KING! all count as correct.

Frequently Asked

Does it work while I'm not streaming?

No - chat commands won't register on an offline channel. The game requires your stream to be live so viewers can type in chat.

How long does each round last?

Each round lasts 30 seconds. There is also a short grace period after the timer ends where answers are still accepted to account for stream delay.

What categories are in the puzzle pool?

Movies, TV shows, video games, songs, and general word puzzles covering animals, food, places, and everyday concepts. The pool has over 160 puzzles and grows regularly.

When does the leaderboard reset?

The leaderboard resets automatically every 24 hours.
